First Time (A Disastrous Sexual Experience)

Sunday

Speaking of first time, I wanted to share my “first time.” If my wife gets to read this, I can imagine her saying, “You are soooo sleeping in the couch tonight, Marvin!” But since the title of this post is First Time, I might as well include this story.

[As a disclaimer, read on your own discretion. Some disturbing facts (read: finding out I’m such a lousy lay) are coming your way, so as a precautionary measure, close this browser now before it’s too late. The next thing I want is some stupid comment about how gross I am. I am gross, to that I am aware, no need to remind me that.]

Ok.

If there is one thing I regret in my life, it is the first time I had sex. I mean, come on, who doesn’t, right? Most of us guys lost our virginity either by these three forces (explained in their simplest form):

a) from the outside force – meaning, peer pressure. One scenario is when one of your friends (most of the time, the eldest and the most fucked up) held a party in his house, or tugged you along at the bar, or took you to some place where there is a copious amount of booze and boobies, and one thing leads to another, you’re “devirginized” the following morning. Sweet.
And, in the rarest of cases, rape.

b) from the inside force – meaning, your own libido. One scenario is if you’re the type of guy who “will” fuck (notice the future-tense of the verb) anything we put panty on to, including but not limited to: your dog, your pillow, your cousin’s Barbie dolls, the Meralco post, your mobile phone, etc. Most of us, guys, fall in this category.

c) from both forces – meaning, there is peer pressure AND you’re on your raunchiest you’ve ever been. Often, but not necessarily, accompanied by booze. Needless to say, I fell in this category.

Here’s how it happens.

And because I believe making– not just eating– mashed potatoes is such a wonderful stress reliever, it is with the sheer remaining glimmers of kindness in my heart that I share with you the art of mashing heads.

Optional step: Invision the heads of people you want to mash. Name potatoes respectively. Or irrespectively, as it were.

Step 2: Lightly scour the potatoes crosswise– this will make it easier to peel them later if you so will it, satiate your murderous intentions if you took the optional step above and make it more logical to take…

Step 3:

THOSE PEOPLE

Sunday
Jul 2,2006

…And when the folks from beyond my door come over, I hear stories. Oh boy, do I ever hear stories. Sometimes it feels like I’m in college all over again — there’s always a rumor about a hook-up or a break-up, so many accounts about unfortunate bets made during drunken moments or bad behavior during all-night revelry, tales of forbidden liaisons, budding romances and unrequited love. About “those people,” as I jokingly refer to the youngsters with out-of-control hormones to match their apparently out-of-control lives.

But because I’ve been married and have been living a somewhat “typical” married life for so many years now, my present existence can be described as orderly, practical, and quiet. So different from the life I once had, the one I’ve almost forgotten about.

So yesterday I managed to pull myself out of my confines and have lunch with a few co-workers. We passed around a bit of office gossip, in particular about where “those people” have been caught in delicato around the workplace and thereabouts. Inevitably this led to a discussion about the strangest places we’d all had sex in.

5 days and still counting

Sunday
Jul 2,2006

UP students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeno have been missing for five WHOLE days now. they were abducted along with 53-year-old Manuel Merino, a local farmer, last June 26 in Hagonoy, Bulacan by 15 bonneted, armed men who introduced themselves as ‘vigilantes.’

They were abducted five days ago, and I shiver at the horror of what may or has become of them for every minute that they remain missing and incommunicado.

PINOYexpats Meet

Early the next day, J dropped us off at the downtown Starbucks for breakfast. I could hardly contain my anticipation in meeting Ruth and Raquel. Meeting two of the brilliant thirteen (naks, syempre kasali kami ni Melissa doon! Hehe!) that make up PINOYexpats was something I was really looking forward to. It was like seeing old friends. These are the people that I probably have emailed to the most in the last couple of years because of all the brainstorming email sessions that we have before each issue. So there we were eating all the fatty Starbucks pastries and chatting on, sometimes reverting to Tagalog, as Hubby patiently listened and looked on. The conversation did not disappoint, and I didn’t really expect it to. After all, how can people who are such fun to read be bad conversationalists? :) Too bad, the other nine members couldn’t join us!

That Sad Look in Her Eyes

Saturday
Jul 1,2006

It’s been almost two weeks since my mother in-law was hospitalized. Nanay underwent blood transfusion. Her hemoglobin content dropped off so she was given blood transfusion. She needed four bags to conquer that life-threatening situation. With God’s mercy, she was able to recover in a week’s time. Little by little, her color returned.

As I have mentioned days ago, I am currently involved in dealing with high risk internet investment.

Then it happened, one of my programs scammed me for my money. It was only $2, but then again, the feeling of being a fool is not easy to bear. That happened this morning.

Going to America

Saturday
Jul 1,2006

Four members of the provincial board of Benguet – in the summer capital of the Philippines built by the Americans in the early 1900s – were on an uproar for the denial of their visa application to the US.

They were indignant, cried foul and bewailed the humiliation.

Books not bullets

Saturday

It’s really ridiculous. The military gets an additional P1 billion in funds to spread chaos in the name of rooting out the communist insurgency at the snap of GMA’s finger while the acting Secretary of the Dept of Education gets a mouthful from the President when the issue about the underfunded state of our education is brought up to the table. View this with the 70-plus students crammed inside a classroom with a leaking roof, busted electric fans, an unusable toilet, and moldy outdated textbooks in the background and I don’t know what will not make you burst out in rage and cry that the men in the Palace are all mad, and worse they are being led by a woman that is the embodiment of madness and self-perpetuating perversity.

If we the people are to take this lying down, God have mercy on our nation, our children, and their children.

Up the mountain trail to Bontoc

Saturday
Jul 1,2006

Just got back from an exhausting but fulfilling day trip to the Cordilleras. Yes, you heard me right, it was a day trip! This time the HCS was off to Bontoc, Mountain Province where a rare American period upland capitol building still stands.

I remember arguing with my grandmother as to why should I take green tea if it’s available or pito-pito instead of coffee. With her eyes sharply gazing into my young soul she explained that green tea is healthier than coffee, it will help me stay fit and healthy despite my skinny form and it will greatly compliment my tai chi practice. It was a lesson well learned and proven by my experience, but she must have forgotten that before that lecture on green tea, she has taught me another lesson that has often kept me at odds against her and her teachings. She earlier told me, “Always doubt what you learn, read, hear, believe and know. Even your self.”

Is coffee that unhealthy?
