(Needless to say, banatan sila.)
Kinaumagahan -
Babae: Honey, anong gusto mong almusal?
Lalaki: Ikaw, ikaw ang aalmusalin ko. (Ayus, e di banatan uli sila!)
Makatanghali -
Babae: Hon, di ka ba nagugutom? Anong iluluto kong pananghalian mo?
Lalaki: Ikaw, ikaw ang ipanananghalian ko. (Syempre pa, pambanatan na naman sila.)
Pagsapit ng hapon, may kumatok. Baba si lalaki upang harapin kung sino man yun. After half an hour, balik sya sa bahay at nagulantang dahil si misis ay hubo’t hubad na nagpapadulas sa barandilya ng hagdan. Wowoweeeeee!!!, sigaw pa sya na parang bata. “What the..? Hon, anong ginagawa mo?!!”, tanong ni lalaki. “Wala lang”, sagot ni babae. “Pinaiinit ko lang itong hapunan mo.”

I have very fond memories of this church. Being only a few blocks from our house, this was where we went to every Sunday. I had my first communion here, as well as my baptism and confirmation. Actually, I was baptized twice on that very same Sunday — the first was at 10 a.m. and the second was just before noon.
And having been baptized twice, I would occasionally tease a devout Catholic aunt, that I was assured a ticket to heaven. But she would quickly argue that had I been truly touched by God while going through those two baptismal rites, I would have been busily pursuing priesthood, or at the very least, had grown up to become an ideal Catholic. You see, something happened when I was about twelve that she did not approve of.
I begin to understand now the qualms of parents when their child marries someone they don’t think has the same basic values and sense as they do.
I realize this as I witness this certain family’s worst fears unfolding, when they deal with their son/brother in-law, his wife (their child/sister) that he’s influenced and the kids that they have both brought up.

After my successful, yet somewhat underwhelming attempt to enter the realm of 64-bit computing via Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, I decided to have another go at it, this time, using a different 64-bit OS. I used the AMD64 version of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, also known as Dapper Drake, which was only released last June 1.
Finally, they were revealed. The hosts of the Pinoy Dream Academy, which will be starting in August, are…

We were waiting for my friend’s little boy and his dad since we were going to watch the Red Bull Air Race down in Sultanahmet at 4:30pm. After my ice cream and chocolate, I decided to join my other two friends for a round of beer and so we ordered one more pitcher…. and another… and another…

Malaysia’s Energy Bill Calculation Considers the Lagging Power Factor Penalty
Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCO) tariff rates and calculation of electric energy shows a strict consideration of the lagging power factor at the demand side, whether it is commercial, residential, or industrial, in the electricity bill. (http://www.sesco.com.my/sesco/english/intransmission.html). Thus, the billing statement also shows the KVar-hour that was consumed by the end-user. The calculation of the Lagging Power Factor Charge is given by the following formula; [read more...]
Did Batibot help start the decline of English proficiency in the Philippines?

I just had dinner with a former grade school classmate; it’s been decades since we last saw each other. It turns out we have a lot of friends and acquaintances in common — most of them fixtures in the Filipino-American community in Los Angeles (i.e. activists, public servants, politicos, educators, and the like). I mentioned the name of a percussionist I used to see for almost a year. I wasn’t surprised she knew him, but I reeled from what she said next. “He has only 10 percent of his vision left,” she said. “He’s blind.”

I met D when I was not even 16. I was at a really popular mexican bar/restaurant in Makati at the time, hanging out with my college-age boyfriend and his bestfriend G. D was 23, a foreign student studying at the state university. He and his friend descended upon our table to say hello to the guys; they were inebriated and stoned, and they scared the hell out of me.

A cousin’s wife was insisting on hiring a personal driver for when she and a couple of their kids visit New York for a month. She must have asked every one she could think of who might know someone from over there who knew anyone willing to do the job. She finally trashed the idea when I told her the average per hour rate for a personal driver in New York is $30.00 for an 8-hour period; beyond that she will have to shell out the usual time-and-a-half per hour overtime rate. That is, of course, if the driver would be willing to work overtime. She pays no more than P10,000.00 a month for her live-in family driver here in Manila with only a single day off every week.
One of my friends in New York does that but for only one client — a rich couple from Madrid who would fly to New York twice a year. They would rent a sedan while my friend would drive it for them for the two week duration the couple was in town. He gets $30.00 per hour plus a generous tip when they depart, which supplements his regular income as a freelance personal trainer.
