Her name is spoken in hushed tones in small social circles. I have heard of recounts of successful personal experiences with the woman who lived in a shabby old hut in the midst of a vast rice plantation. Crone-like with frail but gentle old hands.
Like most healers in the province, I got wind of a particularly good one by word of mouth. I probed more about her with some of the old folks in our neighborhood and it did not take me long to get her name (or what it was she used to go by at that time). I repeated it non-stop, in a loop at the back of my mind just so I do not forget should I go on my quest to find the legendary healer.
About the impeachment complaint, I hope it works out. Particularly after JDV practically pronounced it D.O.A. as a matter of arithmetical fact. In his eagerness to weigh in on the “right side,” he may have overlooked the fact that this is a tacit admission that politicians - particularly on the administration’s side of the divide - are willing to ignore the impeachment complaint simply because it attacks their boss.
This time it’s the much-vaunted U.S. National Academy of Sciences that’s harking the onset of global warming, and its negative effect to our environment. It concluded in a study that the earth’s climate is hottest nowadays in almost 2,000 years.
Commissioned by the U.S. Congress to determine the legitimacy of widespread allegations that earth’s temperature is heating up, the members of the academy came up with a chart that shows a sudden rise in global temperature. Graphically, the said chart resembles a hockey stick that now its slowly gaining popularity as the “hockey-stick chart”.

I’ve come to realize just how dangerous rock climbing can actually be.
Although it’s totally fun and addictive, there’s still NO guarantees that it’s 100% safe, and despite what manufacturers say, sh*t does happen — and people do die.

As a “mobile warrior”, plugging in my laptop on my favorite coffeeshop is such a routine activity that I forgot that other establishments are not as liberal in sharing their electricity. When such an establishment becomes too strict in letting a friend plug in a device, I realized the value of not taking things for granted.
Nope, this is not a five-year-course but a short primer on the popular(?) social engineering scams that has been making the rounds today.

The boat trip in Antalya was just a one day activity. After that, the three of us also went to the ancient city of Termessos. I highly recommend visiting this place. It is one of the well preserved ancient cities in Turkey.
We rented a car to go Termessos. It cost us 75 YTL (approx. 50 USD) to have the car bring us there, wait for us, and go on a side trip to the Duden falls after.
“You have just won a FREE 4 days 3 night package for two including 2 children from Crown Regency Hotel.“, the caller congratulated me. I know there is always a catch to freebies. They got my name from a “raffle stub” that I dropped at the Fil-Negosyo Expo 2006. The lady sounded a bit defensive “There is no catch. The gift certificate is valid for 6 months and you have the choice of staying in our Mactan or Davao Hotel. All you need to bring is a valid ID. You don’t even have to bring cash, credit card or a checkbook“. Something about the “too-good-to-be-true” call piqued my curiosity.
Entrance exams: major alalahanin kapag fourth year ka na. Syempre, hindi ka makakapasok sa isang matinong university kung hindi ka magte-take nito. By this time, only a few of your fellow seniors ang nakapili na ng course at college or university.
If you think about it, wala naman silang itatanong na hindi mo pa napag-aralan nung high school diba?
A Friend in Frankfurt
I squatted down near the phone at the Frankfurt Main train station rummaging through my carry-on to look for her number. I glance up momentarily and right into my sightline waddled this extremely familiar woman with her husband and child in tow.
A very loud “HOY!” escaped from my lips before I could stop it. The only thing that prevented me from running to her were my bags. Melissa and J had not changed one bit. Maganda at guapo pa rin! They were as I remembered them years back, except for the fact that she had a round belly and that they had their little retazo, JP who I was setting eyes on for the first time. He proved to be even cuter than the photos I had seen.

From the point of view of government agencies - like the COMELEC - in particular, blogs serve as a means of increasing transparency - letting the world in to see what actually goes on behind the monolithic walls of the bureaucracy.
Recently, Randy David came out reminding people of the importance of the 2007 polls. Soon after, One Voice added its own exhortation, saying that “in a democracy, the terminal point in the (accountability system in the Constitution) is the vote of its citizens.”
This is all well and good - and what I’ve been yammering about for as long as I can remember - but these statements run up against a toughie: Sure, elections are necessary, but how sure are we that the elections will faithfully reflect the voice of the people?
The taxi ride tonight was a bit surreal. At first, I thought I was hearing some pseudo church music along with the cab’s two-way radio. Then I realized that the music was coming from the car stereo. The cab driver was playing music with nothing but “Hare Krishna” in the lyrics.
