The Philippines According to Blogs

PinoyBlog is a portal aggregator for the Philippine Blogosphere.

If you’re somewhat addicted to joining sites like MySpace, the Pinoy favorite Friendster, and any other similiar sites, then each profile you make is a source for those precious links since again, getting in coming links are not that easy. So the more incoming links to your blog, the more likely it will be put in a higher position in web searches. Setting up profile pages in various sites and linking them to your blog is one way of “do-it-yourself” blog promotion without the difficulties of negotiating link exchanges and such.

The strength of his convictions

A politician wanted desperately to win the post of local chief executive. He wanted it so badly that he gave every voter 500 pesos. The voters were impressed by his generosity and overwhelmingly voted him into office. Everyone thought it was a win-win situation. Then, tragedy struck. A fire gutted out the town hospital and the flames jumped to the local school next door and consumed that too.

After the fire had been put out, the townspeople approached their newly elected chief executive, reminded him that they had voted for him and asked him to rebuild the hospital and the school for them. The chief executive looked at them and said: “Why should I? I don’t owe you anything anymore. Haven’t I already paid for all of your votes?”

This story isn’t as apocryphal as you may think.

The Wonders of Makeover - Like Clay Aiken!

picture from www.wikipedia.org

So, okay, I am so into makeovers. I believe that someone’s skin care regimen or vanity affairs can make or break a person, as well as his/her makeup ( yeah, men wear makeup too! )

Believing that, I know that everyone is simply beautiful. You just have to know what fits you well. In other words, in my nerdy economic terms, my “optimal” point.

Optimum, according to Economist.com, means :

As good as it gets, given the constraints you are operating within. For the concept of optimum to mean anything, there must be both a goal, say, to maximise economic WELFARE, and a set of constraints, such as an available stock of scarce economic resources. Optimising is the process of doing the best you can in the circumstances.

Bliss-ter

most of the time, when i go weeks without blogging, it usually means i’m in a very happy place, im perfectly content in my little space in the world and there’s no real reason to vent out, thus, no blogging.

not in this case. I chose not to write because i decided to practice a little tact, hoping it would spread like a contagious disease and reach those who need to exercise some. I was thinking maybe if i shut up for a little while, i can filter out unnecessary hostility and be less of a biatch (although, i publicly admit being a certified one). don’t get me wrong, this is a very traumatic experience for me. I’ve never felt so offended lately that it brings out the very bad, bad side of me. I don’t like the feeling. My bliss went kaput.

venting goes on

Pre-July Thoughts

I lost my happy thought. I don’t know if it’s just the time of the month or because of the fact that tomorrow’s July already. That means I’m gonna get pretty… pretty OLD. I guess I have to take this one day at a time… or one event at a time.

1. I’m not a big football fan but I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying the World Cup and its consequent effects on people’s spirits all over the world. Admittedly I don’t get to watch most of the games (and I can’t say I’m immensely interested either) – but I love how the World Cup has provided today’s news channels with something cheerful and happy to report about for a change. When it’s World Cup update time, broadcasters are all chatty and in good spirits (wait for FanZone to come on at CNN), and it’s very refreshing. The World Cup definitely adds some much needed color to the otherwise gloomy mood of news channels.

Mouthwatering Pre-Owned Apple Sale

Apple PowerBook G4
A local Apple retailer has a lot of pre-owned PowerBook units for sale at bargain basement prices. Read why these are still good buys despite the fact that these are already officially discontinued products.

Here are my thoughts.

Queso @ Mayric’s

If I remember correctly, there were four front bands. They alone were worth the entrance fee already. They were all good. I was impressed. I enjoyed their music even though I haven’t heard those songs before. AND THEN CAME QUESO.

Or Al Pacino.

Or, I don’t know, one of those spooky modern-day Navajo chieftains people just kind of meet in the middle of a random desert or in a dilapidated diner in an equally dilapidated gas station in the middle of a very uninhabited town en route to, I dunno, Tijuana, Mexico perhaps.

Y’know, those guys from the movies who go, “Say, kiddo, what say you I buy you a drink and show you around town?”

Right.

Drive kiddo ’round bonkersville and straight into heaps more psychoemotional, psychoanalytic, this-is-the-real-world-its-sucks-but-I-think-you’re-gonna-love-it stress than he’s already been wallowing in, that’s what they’d do.

Then bam– life lesson.

Next thing you know, there go a perky epilogue off a-rolling with the credits:

Manny Pacquiao, Tale of the Tape: A Boxing Preview

Paquiao is still the better fighter, with superior handspeed, technique and power. Both are as tough as nails, but Larios has the better training mentality: by all accounts the guy never stops. Larios is a teriffic in-fighter, easily able to throw a thousand punches in the course of a match, but often the shots go wild and don’t pack much strength. Is Manny ripe for an upset? Or is he going to open up a can of whoop-*** on Larios?
